An unplanned overnight
Resulted in cats' usual
Bed partner sleeping
At a friend's house.
One cat, already abed
When I decided to
Retire, scurried out
Of the room, bound
For less comfortable,
Safer surroundings.
After some tossing and
Turning, once asleep,
I sleep like a rock/
Sov som en sten.
'Round midnight,
I sensed a warm
Presence at my feet:
Two cats a-cuddling.
Once established,
Cats rule the environs,
Curtailing my tossing
In honor of their
Preeminence.
Usually at 3 am,
Nature comes
Calling me out of
My warm cocoon.
Cats accommodated
My movement,
Returning after
I had fallen back
To Dreamland.
Upon awakening,
I was back where
I started: sans cats.
